One of the hardest things for new dancers is the question
“How long of a skirt do I need?”
It’s actually a fairly easy question to answer. You will want to have someone measure from your waist (where you wear your skirt) to your ankle. This is the starting number. If you plan on wearing your skirt straight you are all set. If you plan on wrapping, bustling, tucking, puckering or any other fancy work add 2-3 inches. All that playing around will suck up the length of your skirt and you do not want your ankles showing.
The hem of a skirt is the bottom circumference. A traditional ATS or tribal skirt is 25 yards. The 32 yards is more for people that are going to be doing a lot of skirt work…like a gypsy twirling around.
“How do I wash my skirt?”
- Please wash in cold water
- You can dry on delicate or hang dry
- I love to use liquid fabric softener or dryer sheets to help with wrinkles and make them fluffy.
- If you’d like you can steam or iron your skirt.
